The Santana Story - Angels and Demons / BBC In Concert 1976
BBC Four Digital Broadcast June 2011

1. The Santana Story - Angels and Demons

CarlosSantana, the legendary Mexican-American guitarist and songwriter, reveals his turbulent life story with astonishing intimacy, accompaniedby previously unseen archive performances of many of his best-knowntunes. These range from Evil Ways and Black Magic Woman to the massivehits from his later Supernatural album. Santana recounts to directorJeremy Marre the abuse and struggle of his early years, the invention ofLatin rock in San Francisco, his triumph at Woodstock, his involvementwith jealous guru Sri Chinmoy and guitarist John McLaughlin, and therollercoaster years that followed.

This frank and very personaldepiction of a remarkable forty-year career, fuelled by his angels anddemons, is illustrated with behind-the-scenes footage uncovered for thefirst time, interviews with former members of the band, producers andmusicians, and many performances from the early 70s that depict hisunmistakable guitar style.

Contributors include members of theSantana band, music industry executive Clive Davis, producer DavidRubinson, guitarist John McLaughlin, Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead,Santana family members and other musical collaborators.

Thispartial show is all that the BBC has shown so far, although a longerbroadcast has been torrented from the Japanese Wow Wow channel
It wasoriginally broadcast in 4:3 aspect but this recent rebroadcast was in16:9 widescreen and in my opinion looks much better.
It has a brighter and sharper image than the Wow Wow broadcast, all we want now is the full show in this quality.
